YVWA E-Newsletter

26th February 2010, Edition No 18

Rod's Bitang

G’day Youth Vision WA. I hope you're travelling freely and lightly in Jesus?

I have so much to tell you and I don't have a lot of time! Firstly I would like to introduce you to Angie Mitchell our new ACTIVATE Coordinator. I think she got a bit of a mention in the last enews but I've managed to grab a pic for you. Angie is a Mum of 2 very beautiful daughters and is really excited about walking alongside the ACTIVATE students.

This morning she did a great job in facilitating YVWA ACTIVATE's first orientation. It was great having everyone in the room and it was unreal to finally officially get started. We have 13 students in which 3 are from regional WA. I will slowly introduce them to you in future editions.

Here's an action pic of the orientation in full flight! Please pray for them as they embark on their learning pathway.

I'm also pretty excited about introducing you to our very first YVWA Scholarship Winners.

All three in the same room, Christopher Judd (Mukinbudin), Kendall Wall (South Perth) and Aaron Chester (Thornlie).

In other YVWA news this week, we saw our first lot of SYG Coordinator meetings happen in the north on Tuesday and in the south on Thursday. They were well attended and Brittni did a great job in casting the vision for SYG 2010. Please cheack out the website for all of the latest news.

Please pray for Mike Norman who had surgery this week! Pray for a speedy recovery and that he doesn't get to bored lying around.

Well that's it for now! I hope to see you soon. If you are in need of a coffee catch up feel free to give me a call!

God Bless
Rod Thom

The Gospel for iGens

Reared on self-esteem and impervious to guilt, the next generation needs good news that can break through their defenses.
Scot McKnight | posted 9/14/2009

The first step a young man takes toward a woman who he thinks might be his future is delicate. The operative words seem to be "sensitive" and "careful" and "first impressions matter." As in love, so in "gospeling" (or evangelism). When Peter preached at Pentecost, he opened his sermon with a time-honored citation of Scripture and then sketched, in third person, what had happened to Jesus. Only then did he zero in on his audience: "and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death" (Acts 2:23). When Paul got behind the dais on the Areopagus, he opened with one of the most seeker-sensitive sermons in history: "Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious" (17:22). With that opening Paul paved a way to warn the Greeks of the coming judgment. These examples show that biblical evangelism is marked by both boldness and sensitivity to audience.
